Kpoikpoi Runner

The Kpoikpoi Runner brings the drama and intricacy of a West African masterwork to the table. Based on an early 20th-century kpoikpoi, or prestige hanging, in The Met collection, the design draws from the original’s graphic blocks and layered composition, translated here in two woven panels, then joined with wef igir (“bird’s foot”) stitching—a nod to longstanding techniques of assembly and ornamentation.

Handspun, hand-dyed, and handwoven in Ethiopia, this piece carries the vibrant spirit of the Kpoikpoi Throw in a more compact form. Bold yet refined, it’s an invitation to infuse everyday rituals with color, heritage, and joy.
